Mark Pond, CMRP

Business Unit Manager Proactive Maintenance

As a long-time employee of Leggett & Platt, Mark Pond has demonstrated his expertise in managing all aspects of facilities maintenance. As Maintenance Manager, Mark has been responsible for facilitating and overseeing machine maintenance, material handling equipment, energy conservation and implementation of a TPM (Total Productive Manufacturing) program. Mark has proven himself as an exemplary leader, not afraid to roll up his sleeves to coach and lead a staff of 20 maintenance workers including Journeyman Machinists to a salaried Maintenance Supervisor. He steered the company to achieve Level I TPM and Maintenance Excellence in less than two years, and led numerous Continuous Improvement and Equipment Improvement Teams contributing to an over 20% decrease in maintenance costs. He also implemented a Predictive Maintenance Program at the facility.

As Maintenance Supervisor, Mr. Pond worked with designers on new products and prototype machinery for wire forms and spring products, purchasing and installing new equipment, budgeting and working with outside vendors on roofing and construction projects. Mark supervised and assisted mechanics and electricians to troubleshoot and repair machinery, trained and supervised employees to work within OSHA guidelines, created OSHA lockout/tagout policy and Hazardous Materials program, and helped design updated machine guarding to meet OSHA standards. He also designed an energy efficient compressed air system, designed and administered the computer network and used fiber optic cable, networked a campus environment for telecommunications and computers, created a machine maintenance system that decreased maintenance time, downtime, and parts usage while increasing efficiency, designed a spare parts ordering system that reduced inventory by over 25% in less than one year, redesigned OEM parts and systems to increase life and decrease cost and maintenance.

Added to his long list of practical experience and expertise, Mark has many certifications to include: Master Certificate, Management Development Program and Certificate of Outstanding Achievement, both from the Central Massachusetts Employer Association; Certified Mechanical Inspector from the American Society for Quality Control; Certified Manufacturing Engineer from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers; Certified Level I Vibration Analyzer from Technical Associates.

Mr. Pond is a Commander in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and serves as Adjunct Faculty in Fluid Power for Gateway Community College in Phoenix, Arizona.
